You didn't come this far to only come this far

A short story of someone struggling

The following article is dedicated to raise awareness about depression and mental  illness. I personally had a difficult time in my life at a young age and I want everybody to know that it gets better. Remember: You are worth it and you are not alone.

What does it feel like? (for me)

"Recently i went through, with was for me, the hardest time of my life. I fell into a deep and long fight against the only thing who has the power to change my life, the only thing that keeps me from achieving my goals and the only thing that keeps me from moving forward: me.

Even if I had a ton of people around me, it felt like I was alone in my mind and in my soul. I felt like I lost everything and in particular, lost myself. My mind kept repeating that I'm not myself and I'm not the Zachary that all of you know.

The more was thinking about that, the more I was down often. I would never have taught a few months ago that I could have fallen so low. But I did. I didn't know why but for some reasons I couldn't enjoy life at his full potential. While you were laughing and having fun, I was crying and isolating myself because I was afraid to face the reality. The fact that for some unknown reasons, I couldn't enjoy living anymore..."

How can you get better?

Trust me, there is no all in one solution and there is no magic ways to make disappear this awful feeling that you have inside of your mind. Here are some tips I used to get out of my depression.

Be true to yourself

You need to be true to yourself and put your ego aside. Reflect on yourself and be honest with you.

Set goals

Setting goals allows us to find our purpose. What do you want to accomplish in life? What career do you want to have? What problems do you want to solve? Set goals according to what you want to be and Take Action every day in order to reach your goals.

Be patient

It takes time. Some people say that time is your enemy and that you only have a certain amount of time in your life. I believe that time is your friend. It is a natural healer and when you use it wisely, time becomes a gift.

Exercise

Exercise helped me a lot and I know it can help other people. Any type o physical activities releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins not only interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain but also trigger a positive feeling in your body. Take care of your body and your mind by training.

Change old habits

Maybe it is time for a change? Take your goals that you have set and change your habits in a way that it will be easier for you to achieve them. Maybe take cold shower, wake up early, make your bed in the morning, change your training routine or read a book before you go to sleep. Experiment as much as you can!

Socialize even if you don't feel like it

This might be one of the hardest thing to do when you feel down. You see all your friends with a big smile, laughing at some jokes while you feel like you want isolate yourself and talk to nobody. You need to fight that feeling of sadness and socialize. Even if you don't feel like it, I promise you, talking to people will help you think about something else then your feelings.
